Team Nika became the first team ever to claim a hat trick of RC44 World Championship titles after Vladimir Prosikhin, tactician Dean Barker and their crew managed to fend off Igor Lah’s Team CEEREF on the final day of big conditions racing off Cascais. The RC44 World Championship Marina de Sotogrande had a worthy winner today in Igor Lah and his Team CEEREF crew, the second occasion the Slovenian team has claimed this prize (after Puerto Calero, Lanzarote in 2013). But this was only after some anxious moments off the Andalusian port, as Lah’s crew slogged it out with local heroes, John Bassadone’s Peninsula Petroleum from nearby Gibraltar.
Racing at the RC44 Puerto Sotogrande Cup finished today with the tensest of conclusions, two boats tied going into the final race and the ultimate result of the regatta going right to the wire.
Sotogrande, the new Spanish venue for the 2014 RC44 Championship Tour, laid on idyllic conditions with flat water and breeze gusting at times to 20+ knots, for the match racing on the opening day of the RC44 Puerto Sotogrande Cup.
Puerto Sotogrande will be the host for these majestic yachts during the last week of June.
