NEAR COLLISION BETWEEN TWO SHIPS IN BAY OF GIBRALTAR
11 April 2017
Two ships nearly collided in the Bay on Sunday, with the resulting clamour of fog-horns heard across Gibraltar.
At around 6.30pm, as it was leaving the harbour, the bulk carrier Maritime Unity came close to crashing into another bulk carrier, Maritime Furious.
In response to GBC questions, the Port said the Unity’s course was affected by a strong gust of wind. However, there was no contact between the ships, with Unity sailing on to her next port of call.
