ENVIRONMENTAL CODE OF CONDUCT – AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

On the occasion of the start of the sports fishing campaign, Alcaidesa Marina is launching an environmental information activity aimed at activities associated with the practice of recreational boating in any of its forms (cruising, fishing, regattas, etc.).

Being aware that these activities are capable of causing environmental damage, we have developed an Environmental Code of Conduct to remind boat users of the rules to follow during navigation, with particular emphasis on the risks that plastic pollution poses to ecosystems and marine species.

Our Environmental Code of Conduct:

  • The sea is not a dump. DO NOT DISPOSE OF ANY TYPE OF WASTE INTO THE SEA. The physical shape of some waste, especially plastic waste, can cause the death of marine species. Particularly harmful are fishing nets and ropes, where mammals and seabirds can get entangled, as well as plastic waste such as plastic rings that hold aluminum cans together, which can strangle fish and seabirds due to their shape.
  • DO NOT DISCHARGE SEWAGE OR BILGE WATER. Keep these waste materials onboard and once you reach port, dispose of them at designated waste collection points, in the appropriate containers, or request sewage and bilge water collection services from the port authority.
  • RESPECT AREAS WHERE FISHING IS NOT PERMITTED. Do not use prohibited fishing gear. Respect fishing bans, protected species, and minimum size regulations for immature fish.
  • DO NOT DISCARD FISH REMAINS INTO THE SEA. During fishing activities, organic fish waste may be generated. As a precautionary measure, bring these remains to port and dispose of them in designated organic waste containers.
  • DO NOT DAMAGE MARINE FLOORS WHEN ANCHORING IN SENSITIVE AREAS. Learn about the locations and characteristics of sensitive areas, natural reserves, and protected ecosystems to avoid accidentally causing damage to them.
  • USE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS WHENEVER POSSIBLE (paints, varnishes, antifouling agents, paint strippers, detergents, etc.).
