CORMORANT RESCUED IN ALCAIDESA MARINA

Every day we receive news of the interaction between wild animals and plastic. Although we believe that this is not happening on our coast, our team has frequently recorded dolphins, birds and sea turtles in trouble caused by entanglements with plastic and fishing tackle.

Today, our colleagues from Alcaidesa Marina, Francisco Bravo Ruíz and Antonio José Rojas Collado, have done a magnificent job. This morning they managed to rescue a large cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo). The animal had swallowed a fish hook tied to a thick fishing line and a bottle. After being picked up at sea by the rescuers, it was transferred to a centre to fully recover.

We would like to thank them for their selfless action. They are great defenders of nature as they have shown us numerous times when an animal has been in trouble. Thanks to people like them we are more aware of the need to reduce the consumption of plastic.
